Environmental journalism stands at an unpredictable crossroads today: shifting with structural changes of how audiences get their information from non-news sources, while simultaneously fighting to build and rebuild trust, especially among the least served and most underreported communities. On April 16th, Green 2.0 and the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) released Behind the Byline: Voices From Environmental Journalism which explores the demographics of newsrooms and the experiences of environmental journalists of color to provide an understanding of the field trends and examine how systemic issues impact individual journalists. We hosted a discussion with environmental journalists around the findings of the report and the tangible steps needed to build an inclusive and thriving environmental journalism field that reflects the voices and experiences of all communities.
