GreenLatinos

GreenLatinos 2024 National Summit, El Yunque, Puerto Rico

About GreenLatinos

GreenLatinos is a national nonprofit of Latine leaders confronting national and local environmental issues in our community. We envision a healthy and equitable society where communities of color are liberated from disproportionate environmental burdens, free to breathe fresh air, drink pure water, access clean transportation, and enjoy our majestic public lands, oceans, and waters.

The Crisis We are Facing

The climate crisis and environmental degradation are causing a rapidly escalating breakdown in civil and human rights, intensifying systematic social, health, and economic injustices in our communities, and threatening our basic life-sustaining needs, including fresh air, clean water, healthy food, access to adequate health care, and shelter in our communities. Any real solution to addressing this crisis will demand the unprecedented transformation of every sector of the global economy over the next decade, which can only be achieved if we address the racial justice and social equity work necessary to grow an inclusive and equitable movement and successfully meet the challenge of this moment.

Putting Data into Action

GreenLatinos has 3 main pillars of our work as a convener, capacity builder, and advocacy coordinator.

As a convener of Latino/a/e environmental, conservation, and climate justice leaders at the national, state, and local levels, GreenLatinos creates opportunities to utilize our cultural connections to help our members meet, establish bonds, build trusted relationships, and break down historical barriers between Latino/a/es from different sectors of the movement. These relationships turn into partnerships where each of our unique resources, access, power, privilege, and information can be more efficiently shared. GreenLatinos supports member-to-member relationship building and resource sharing.

GreenLatinos curates opportunities to build member-to-member trust and relationships to help break down historic barriers between the sectors of the movement. We aim to build partnerships to help share the unique resources, power, privilege, and information that we each hold. Stay up to date on our latest events here. Some opportunities we have created for member-to-member connection include the following:

  • GreenLatinos National Summit
    • Gathering of National Latino Environmental and Conservation Leadership
  • GreenLatinos National and Regional Encuentros
    • Virtual educational calls and in-person events that educate our members on various policy issues, the federal legislative process, and advocacy opportunities, connect to decision makers and Latino/a/e leaders in the field and provide an opportunity for our members to connect and build relationships and partnerships.

As a capacity builder, GreenLatinos plays a central intermediary role in linking our members to existing resources provided by us and other trusted sources. We equip communities with strategic options, fostering meaningful connections, and ensuring the credibility and success of new partnerships. GreenLatinos is a network built to support and help sufficiently resource the trusted leaders, campaigns, and organizations that are already in their communities doing the hard work.

  • Justicia y Equidad Fund (JyE Fund) is GreenLatinos Intermediary Fund moving resources directly to communities in need.

As an advocacy coordinator, GreenLatinos supports the ability for more members, campaigns, and organizations to advocate on the issues on which they do have programs. We organize advocacy trainings and opportunities, provide policy support, and develop resources and information, for members to use in their advocacy work. GreenLatinos is committed to pulling up more chairs to the tables of power for communities of color, low-income, immigrant, and rural communities that are most affected by the climate crisis. GreenLatinos believes that by increasing shared resources, and collective power, we can better advocate for and activate our environmental justice priorities at the federal, state, and local levels.
